Obituary of Joel Michael Baccardax

It is with profound sadness, that we announce the passing of Joel Michael Baccardax, of Louisdale, at the age of 18, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born April 27th, 1999, in Calgary AB, he was the son of Aurel and Laurie (Samson) Baccardax. He was a vibrant, energetic, fun-loving toddler, but at the young age of 2, he was diagnosed with Metachromatic Leukodystrophy. He was a warrior, who fought a courageous battle for 16 years. Despite many adversities and throughout his illness, Joel enjoyed spending time with family and friends, boating, camping, family barbecues, trips down South, etc. He found peace by the water, bathing in the sun and thoroughly enjoyed swimming with the dolphins, while on his "Wish" trip to Curaçao. He is survived by his loving parents Laurie and Aurel Baccardax, his brother Ethan Baccardax; maternal grandparents Carl and Jeanne D'Arc (Martell) Samson of Louisdale, paternal grandparents Phyllis Côté (Wally Ellison) of West Bay, Oswald Baccardax of Grand Grêve; Aunts Cathy (Jason) Felix of Louisdale, Anne Marie Stone of Guysborough; Uncles Tommy (Shelly) Samson of Louisdale, Greg (Michele) Baccardax of Halifax. He is also survived by cousins, Jaden Samson, Brady and Taylor Felix of Louisdale, Kara Baccardax of Halifax, Jamie Lee Stone of Halifax, Ayden Stone of Port Hawkesbury and Michael Stone of Port Hawkesbury. He was predeceased by his maternal great grandparents, Thomas and Rose (Samson) Martell, Lillian and Felix Samson, paternal great grandparents Edgar and Margaret (Pottie) Côté and paternal grandparents Visitation will be held in the Glen Sampson Room in Louisdale on Wednesday from 7-9pm and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9. Mass of celebration of life will be held at St. Louis Parish Church in Louisdale, on Friday, May 19th, at 11am with Rev. Callistus Abazie officiating. Burial to follow in St. Louis Parish Cemetery, Louisdale. A reception will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47 in Grand Anse, following the burial.
