Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MARTEL, Mary Delta Martel 86 - Little Anse It is with profound sadness and deep love that we the family of Delta Mary (Landry) Martel announce her passing on August 21st, 2017 at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston. Delta was born in Little Anse on September 20th, 1930. Delta was a kind and gentle soul that never complained or criticized anyone. She loved beyond measure and took the responsibility of showing unconditional love to her family very seriously. She enjoyed the simple things in life, the things that money couldn't buy! She could be seen gardening, picking berries or clam digging on any given day. While she was happy with a quiet nap on the couch in the afternoon, she also loved to mischievously play tricks and jokes at the bingo with her family. Sometimes that laughter resonated through the entire hall and the mystery of the joke remained unknown to the witnesses around. Delta's love and legacy began with her undying love for her darling Freddie. They were married in August 20th, 1956 and celebrated 61 years of marriage. While dementia claimed parts of their memory, witnessing their hand hold or silly remarks to one another was a true testament to their love, devotion, commitment and care for one another. That love will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Left to mourn her loss are her loving husband Freddie, children Wanda Atkinson (Courtney), Jimmy Martel (Darlene), Carolyn Martel (James), Donna Samson (Greg), Judy Jollymore (Neil), Bonnie McOnie (Barry), Lynn Shannon (Dwain), Tina Ingersoll (Faron) and Jamie Martel (Debbie). In addition, she will be missed by 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Delta also leaves behind her special sister Helen Burns. Delta was predeceased by her parents (Tommy and Alvina Landry), her in laws (Madge and George Martel) infant son George Alexander, 10 brother and sisters (Bertha May, Mary, Lucille, Raymond, Quinten, Theresa, Rose, Muriel, Margaret, and Bertha May, Evangeline), her grandson Jordan, her son-in-law Dean and special sisters and brother Lorraine, Alvina, and Willie. Delta's family wishes to thank the following people for their care and compassion throughout her time with dementia and during her brief illness: her son Jamie and daughter-in-law Debbie, her daughter Donna, the many home care workers that loved her dearly, Tina Kinslow, Rosemarie McNamara, Dr. Laurie MacNeil, Dr. Robert Martell, Dr. Scott MacNeil, the nursing staff at the Strait Richmond Hospital and all those that assisted in keeping Delta at home as long as possible. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A celebration of life will take place on Friday in St. Joseph's Church in Petit de Grat at 2p.m. with Father Callistus Abazie officiating. Family flowers only. Interment will take place following the mass in the Star of Sea Cemetery, Petit de Grat. A reception will follow at the Social Action Club in Little Anse. Memorial donations can be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H.Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd in Arichat.
