Obituary of Howard Thomas Babin
BABIN, Howard Thomas
Age 87, formerly of West Arichat, passed away peacefully at his residence at the St. Anne’s Nursing Home, Arichat on February 27th, 2018. Howard was a devoted husband and a proud father and grandfather. His early life saw him working in Halifax as a stevedore at the dock yard and as a bartender and waiter at the Ashburn Golf Club. After marrying, Howard settled in West Arichat to raise his family with wife Merina, supporting them as a lobster fisherman and as a dump truck owner/operator. Howard especially loved live fiddle music and often joined in on the spoons or mouth organ. He was known for telling jokes and sharing stories from his past. He was a generous man and a good neighbour. His children will always remember how Dad and Mom stood together in their front window waving farewell to departing family and friends.
Born April 11th, 1930 in West Arichat, NS, Howard was the son of the late Francis and Melinda (Poirier) Babin. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Merina (DeCoste). He is survived by daughter Claudette, Sydney, NS; son Glenn (Theresa), Grand Lake, NS; daughter Mona (Bonifacio Bertumen), Mississauga, ON; grandchildren: Remy, Braden and Josie; brother Harold (Anna) Babin, West Arichat, NS; sister Genevieve Marchand, Louisdale, NS; and predeceased by brother Velma. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation as per family’s request. There will be a Celebration of Howard’s Life on April 21 at the Acadiaville Community Centre in West Arichat. Sadly, as his wife passed so recently (January 30, 2018), this will be a joint event in honor of both of them. Contact claudettebabin@gmail.com if you require more details. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Acadiaville Community Centre. Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd.
