It is with a sad heart that I write this. I have known Monica since 1984 when she started with the Transportation Department in Halifax where she served as my secretary for many years. She was very likeable and friendly with a warm smile but not afraid to let it be known if she did not agree with something. Monica was a hard worker. When her work was done, she would offer to help others with theirs. If there was work to be done, there was no putting it off with Monica, it had to be done now not later. I have someone in my house with the same attitude. Not being the most organized person, many a times I said "Monica, I cannot find this file". She usually found it buried on my desk. Monica's birthday and mine were only six days apart. For many years we celebrated it together thanks to Marg (a co-worker), who invited us to her home and graciously provided a meal and a cake for the occasion. I wish to thank Helge and the Boyd family, who made it possible for Mary and I to say our own good byes to Monica and hold her hand while she was still breathing. Mary and I send our sincere condolences to Helge, Johnathan and the Boyd family. Monica will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace. I will have an extra piece of cake for you, Monica, when our birthdays come around.
I knew Monica mainly in a professional setting through her many years at Trans. and Infrastructure Renewal and then working with her son Jonathan who she cared most deeply about. Monica was always willing to go the extra mile to help us and was a pleasure to deal with in her straight forward manner (some in a business setting can be cringe worthy But never Monica). I am shocked to hear this news as I haven't heard from Monica since her retirement. It was a pleasure to know Monica, my condolences to Jonathan and all the family - RIP
So saddened to learn of Monica's passing. Seems like just yesterday she was in grade nine at River Bourgeois. Hugs to all.
Dear Brenda, Judy, Kay and family
I have been thinking of you since I heard about Monica’s death earlier this week. I am very sad for all of you. I am holding all of you close in my heart, thoughts and prayers. I did not get to see Monica much but ran into her at Sobey’s a few months ago and as usual she had a big smile on her face. She had a great smile and an even bigger laugh. Many years ago I indicated I want to be an organ donor and will continue to advocate for that. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal.Love leaves memories no one can steal.”Sending hugs. With love and sympathy from Kim Hiscock
Kay, Brenda and Judy
So sorry for your loss, I will always remember her great laugh, and the fun times at your house. She will certainly be missed. Hugs to you all
Brenda: We would like to express our sorrow and condolences to you and your family.
Our big ray of sunshine is the way I will always remember this beautiful lady. I worked with Monica for 29 years, having started at Transportation close to a week, or maybe a bit more, apart. She adored her family and friends and always kept our thoughts in perspective. Jonathan "the light of her life", Helge, also "the light of her life" and all the rest of her family and friends, my heart goes out to you.
Norann Joudrey

I was sadden to read of Monica's passing. I worked with Monica for many years at Transportation. We were much more than fellow employees, we were friends. We joked and laughed and teased each other. She was one of a kind. Even after I retired I knew that she was only a phone call away. It's hard to believe that I will never hear her voice again. Rest in peace my friend.
My deepest sympathies go out to Helge and Jonathon and the rest of her family and friends. May you find strength in each other.
From everyone at Maritime Pressure Works our condolences are with you during this time of grief.
May the peace that comes from memories shared, comfort you all in the days ahead.
My sincere condolences to Monica’s family. I will always remember her spunky, bright and generous spirit.
To Monica’s family
I worked with and relied on Monica for many years and enjoyed her refreshing no nonsense, ‘get it done … now’ approach to everything.
Monica’s brightness affected everyone around her, and I appreciated her every day.
My sincere condolences to you all.
So sorry to hear this news. Monica was the entertainment at the boys hockey games and tournaments, always full of life while cheering them on. Our deepest condolences to Jonathan and family. May she rest with the angels ❤️
I am so sorry to read this, Monica was a neighbour and one of the "Moms of the boys" in our little area of Collins Grove. My deepest sympathy to Jonathan, sending big hugs to you, cherish your memories.
With sympathy, The Gracie family, Andree, John, Samantha and Nash
RIP Monica. I hadn’t seen you in years, but when I ran into you a couple of years ago, it was like no time had passed. We had some great times at ball parties and you so kindly passed on all of Jonathan’s baby supplies when we needed it. It was so nice to have known you. I know you struggled with health issues the last few years so now you are not struggling anymore. Your family will struggle to heal the void you left but in time will smile every time they think of you and the memories of love you left them. RIP friend.
Wishing you comfort and sympathy during this difficult time. May you always cherish wonderful memories of Monica and her kindness to help others and the lives she touched along the way. Sending my thoughts and prayers to the family.
To the family of Monica Boyd Hamnes:

I want to extend my sincere condolences to her family for their loss of such a bright spirit!
