BOWEN, Catherine Georgina (Joyce) March 26, 1942 to February 14th, 2025 Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Catherine (Joyce) Bowen of Arichat was reunited with her loving husband Vernie and cherished daughter Beverly on February 14th, 2025. Catherine, better known as Nanny, was surrounded by her loving family at St. Richmond Hospital as she passed at the age of 82. Catherine was born in D’Esscouse; the daughter of the late Francis and Anita (Sampson) Joyce. Mom started her career working at St. Anne’s Nursing Home until she became a mother. She then dedicated 12 years to raising her children before returning to St. Anne’s to continue her career. In her early years of retirement, mom enjoyed spending her summers with dad camping at Widdens. She enjoyed her family gatherings and spending summer days poolside with her kids and grandkids, whom she cherished. Her fondest memories were meeting Ann Murray and her big trip to the Grand Ole Opera with Beverly. She enjoyed watching the soap operas and playing Telile TV Bingo; if you dared to speak during either of these the volume went from 20 to 35 very fast. Her family will miss her shortbreads at Christmas, no one could make them the same as her. Mom is survived by her daughters Brenda Bowen, Arichat, Debbie (Blaise) Sampson, St. Peter’s, and Kim (Marcel) Heudes, Petit de Grat; son Vernon (Nicole), Halifax, son-in-law Craig Benoit, Arichat; grandchildren Wayne (Kaysha), St. Peter’s, Brittany (Jordan), Arichat, Tyler (Jennifer), Dartmouth, Hillary (Nick), Springhill; and great-grandsons William and Cameron, with number three arriving in June; sisters Jeanne, Barbara, Irene, Matilda (Robert); sister-in-law Susan; and many special nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Vernie and cherished daughter Beverly, sister Yvonne, brother Lloyd in infancy, brothers-in law George, Johnny, Blaise, Jerry, Peter, and Bobby, sister-in-law Marie. To our sister Brenda, words cannot express our gratitude to you for devoting your life to mom and dad until their last breath. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Lawrence MacNeil for his many years of dedication, to the home care workers who made her days brighter, and the staff at Strait Richmond Hospital for their compassionate care. Please consider a donation to St. Anne’s Community & Nursing Care Center or Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A small family service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd., Arichat.
