Obituary of Norman John Isaac
Please share a memory of Norman John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness, we the family announce the passing of Norman John Isaac, 53, of Potlotek First Nation, on March 20th, 2025 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
Norman was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Norman Francis of Eskasoni, and Delores Isaac of Potlotek on March 26th, 1971. Norman was the first to graduate from high school in his family, from St. Peters District High, with an acceptance letter from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax in the tenth grade. He was the first highest achieved First Nations individual to obtain certification for Water and Wastewater Operations. Norman worked as a circuit rider trainer with the North Shore Mi’kmaq District Council since 2010. He dedicated all his passion to helping First Nations operators learn and adapt to their water and Waste water systems in all of Atlantic Canada. Prior, to this, Norman dedicated over a decade of his career to Potlotek First Nation, his home community, as a Water and Wastewater operator. With his knowledge in this industry and his commitment to his community, Potlotek was able to get the first Highest Level water treatment facility in Atlantic Canada – securing clean drinking water for the next seven generations of his community. Norman enjoyed listening to his favourite bands, Metallica and Bon Jovi. He could always be seen wearing a Metallica tee shirt, shorts, and his hat backwards. Growing up, you could always see him on the court with his best friend Ellery Levesque (Buckshot).
Norman enjoyed going on spontaneous adventures with his loving Fiancé Leah. They both enjoyed being outside spending time with their grandchildren. Whether it be working on the lawn or riding on the Side by Side. His most cherished times were spending it with their grandchildren and his nephews. He took pride in his “Monster Truck”. And if you were lucky to go for a drive with him, you would get locked in, windows closed. Andddd.. smell the roses.
Norman is survived by the love of his life and fiancé, Leah Marie Johnson, of Potlotek. His daughters, Cassandra Isaac (Jarod Skinner), Charlotte Herney of Potlotek, and Candace Pierro (Brent) of Wagmatcook. His sons, Marcus Herney, Anthony Isaac, and Evan Johnson all of Potlotek. His sisters, Heidi Dennis of Eskasoni, and Patricia Paul (Richard) of Potlotek. His brother, Frank Dennis of Eskasoni. His godchildren, Patrick Isaac, Mariah Levesque, Levi Marshall, Conrad DeWolfe, and Dustin Giovannetti all of Potlotek, and Kingston Herney of Eskasoni. His grandchildren, Nate, Scarlett, Harvey, Norman jij jij, Marcie, Macie, Maria, Amelia, Jace, Laurel, Landon, Gryffin, and Layah.
Norman is predeceased by his son, Mark Anthony. His brother, Cory Andrew Dennis. His parents, Norman Francis and Delores Isaac.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Emergency Health Services - Patient Transport Unit, the Coronary Care Unit at the CBRH, and a very special thank you to Shauna Marshall.
