T. EDWIN SAMSON – October 3rd, 1952 – April 4th, 2025
Edwin was the son of the late Lawrence and Leontine Samson of Petit De Grat.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Phyllis (Boudreau) and his daughter Alleshia Helbig (Karsten) of Edmonton, Alta. Edwin was extremely proud of his family.
He is also survived by brothers, Pierre (Bev) – West Arichat, Ben (Françoise) – Petit De Grat, Kevin (Colette) – Louisdale; sisters, Colleen (Arthur DeWolfe) – West Arichat and Charlene (Jerry Bonin) – Petit De Grat; brothers-in-law, Nap (Debbie) West Arichat, Lenny (Georgina) – Petit De Grat, Marcel – Edmonton; sister-in-law, Rosanna – Petit De Grat.
Edwin was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Leontine Samson; brother, Dean and sister-in-law, Donna; parents-in-law, Caesar and Melda Boudreau.
Edwin’s career encompassed driving trucks for a number of companies, including Isle Madame Co-Op, Alphonse Sampson, Maia Transport, Boudreau’s Fuels and finally as a School Bus Driver. He had a passion for driving and was always happy to be on the road, and at times re-e-e-e-e-ally slowly.
Gus, Mon Oncle Boo Boo or Uncle Gus loved to bug and tease in a jovial, friendly manner. His true character came out when he was enjoying a game of cards – particularly if he was winning.
Thank you to the staff at the Strait Richmond and Cape Breton Regional Dialysis Units, Dr. Hewlett, Drs. Laurie and Scott McNeil and Richmond County Continuing Care.
Many thanks to his travelling buddy, Ronnie Cat. Dad loved the fact that you were always ready to engage and matched his sense of humor. You made his weekly visits more tolerable.
As his daughter, I would like to say: It is said that "it takes a village to raise a child" but it also takes that same village to care for our seniors. Dad and Mom have been on the receiving end of so much kindness, compassion and love. There are not enough words to describe the immense appreciation I have for everyone who has helped Dad and Mom over the years. Rosanna, Dad could not have asked for a better sister-in-law, he loved you like a daughter and appreciated everything you did for him. Daphne, Bernadine, Charmaine, Amber - thank you for the extra care that you provided for my parents. It is reassuring to know that you are there in times of need. To my aunts and uncles, family and friends, thank you for your help and support. I don't know what I would do without your help.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dialysis Unit of the Strait Richmond Hospital or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Petit de Grat on May 19th, at 11am with Rev. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial to follow in Star of the Sea Cemetery, Petit de Grat. Following the burial, there will be a reception held at the St. Joseph’s Parish Hall, Petit de Grat.
