SAMPSON, Joseph Howard, 81 of Louisdale
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Howard Sampson of Louisdale, that occurred at Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston on May 20, 2025.
Born in Louisdale, he was the son of the late Elias and Rosette Sampson. Howard carried a quiet pride for this place throughout his life. In his early years he spent time in Halifax and eventually moved his family home to assist his wife in opening Sampson’s Grocery in River Bourgeois. They retired, sold the store and moved to dad’s family home and began Seal Cove Bed & Breakfast.
Dad also known as “Howie” will always be remembered for his dedication to family and community. His commitment to his community was evident in his many years with the Louisdale Lions Club. His dedication did not go unnoticed as he was honoured as Volunteer of the Year in 2014.
He will be remembered for living his life with integrity, who found joy in simple pleasures and made a lasting impact on his community. A few may remember him for his love of cards, time in the woodpile and enjoying a cigar or two.
“Sometimes the quietest souls leave the deepest mark”
His love for fastball was legendary, and he was often identified for his remarkable ability to excel in any position in the field. He played with the Halifax Schooners, Dairy Queen, Brookfield Elks and Keith’s.
The Margaree River held a special place in his heart. As an avid outdoorsman, he found great pleasure and joy spent fishing its waters with his close buddies. His favourite stories often revolved around his fishing and hunting adventures with his brothers, other family members and friends, which is the only time we seen him get loud & excited.
Howard is survived by his daughter Daunette (Grant) Timmons, Port Hawkesbury; son Blair (Carol), West Kelowna; grandchildren Michael, Natalie, Brant, Marc; sister Emily (Brian) Stockall, Halifax and brother Bobby (Mary Agnes), GrandAnse.
Besides his parents, Howard was predeceased by the love of his life, Vivian Marie “Touesnard” Sampson and brother Arthur (Lorraine).
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Howard’s life will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to the Strait Richmond Hospital Kidney Unit, Evanston or to the Pay it forward angel fund.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd. In Arichat.
