GRACIE, Peter Richard, 77 of Lower L’Ardoise It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Richard Gracie of Lower L’Ardoise that passed away peacefully on June 2nd, 2025 with his family by his side. Born in Point Michaud, he was the son of the late Joseph Leo and Martha (Raney) Gracie. In his younger years, Peter was a long haul truck driver in Ontario. He moved back to Cape Breton with his wife Louise where they had two children, Lori and Amanda. He continued to drive trucks for many years to come. He started part-time work with snow removal with DOT. Peter also lobster fished for 15 years. He then moved on to a full time position with D0T where he was still employed until his illness. He worked for them for 50 years and was known as the best grader operator around. Peter loved to work in his garage making many different creations. A lot of people in the community have something special he made, including Dr. Pluta and the cancer centre that have a clock he made during his illness. He loved to deer and rabbit hunt, he also enjoyed trout fishing and playing horseshoes. He was known as the school cancellation predictor. Everyone would text when a snowstorm was coming to see what his prediction was for school the next day. He was loved by everyone and he was always willing to help anyone out in need. We all called him “God” as he could fix anything and everything. He will live on in our hearts forever and be missed terribly. Peter is survived by his wife Louise (MacDougall) Gracie; daughters Lori Stone (Russell) Amanda (Jason) Basque; grandchildren Tanner Basque, Shamus Stone, Aiden Stone; sisters Ann (Albert) Cook, Mary Ellen (Wayne) Carter, Joanne (Ted) Vint, Madeline (Billy) Brewster; brothers Andrew and Michael Gracie. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law Mona Gracie (Messervey). Cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation or funeral per request. Memorial donations in memory of Peter can be made to the Cancer Society of Nova Scotia or to the charity of one’s choice. We would like to thank the special individuals with continuing care (Megan, Hilary, Alicia and Cathy). The cancer centre, the care at the VG, EHS, L’Ardoise Volunteer Fire Department, Strait Richmond Hospital, Dr. Pluta and Dr. DeRoche for making his last moments very peaceful. A very special thank you to Dr. Gillis and Lesley LeRue for your kindness and compassionate care throughout his illness. Also to C. H.
