MACDONALD, Ronald Darrell, 83 of L’Ardoise It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Darrell MacDonald of L’Ardoise that passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025 with his family by his side. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Ronald and Annastasia (Hawley) MacDonald. Darrell joined the Royal Canadian Air Force November 1966 and retired in 1993- serving for 27 years as a Meteorological Technician. During his time in the military, he enjoyed seeing many parts of the world and lived on various bases across the country. As a family there were many camping trips where they all enjoyed time together and met many great friends along the way. There were also multiple trips to come back home to visit family in Cape Breton while posted away- he looked forward to coming back and settled in Cape Breton for his retirement. Darrell had a great love for his dogs, Sunflower and Missy. You can be sure that he is having great walks with them now and enjoying some cuddles with them. Darrell could always find a game to watch on tv- his love of sports was throughout his life. He loved to golf, curl and play almost any sport he could. He was a proud father and grandfather, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. Ronald is survived by his loving wife Theresa Anne (Berthier) MacDonald; daughter Alana (Jeff) Gates, Lake Echo; son Neal (Gail) MacDonald, L’Ardoise; grandchildren Nicole MacDonald, Tyler Gates, Nicholas Gates. Besides his parents, Ronald was predeceased by his brother Keith (Monie) MacDonald; sisters Dianne Melrose and Kim MacCormack. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 19th from 6-9pm at L’Ardoise Holy Guardian Angels Parish Visitation Parlour at 182 Chapel Cove Rd, L’Ardoise.
