Obituary of Kevin Matthew Johnson

Please share a memory of Kevin Matthew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Kevin Matthew Johnson of Potlotek, who left us peacefully at his home on August 1, 2025. Born to the late Matthew and Annie (Nevins) Johnson, he grew up surrounded by the love of family and community. Kevin worked tirelessly to provide for his family, taking pride in being a devoted father and provider. For over 25 years, he dedicated his work to economic development, always striving to make a positive impact for those around him. A proud graduate with his Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies, Kevin achieved a place on the Dean’s List and earned numerous certificates throughout his lifetime — a testament to his dedication and hard work. His greatest joy was always found in the simple moments shared with the people he loved. He often visited his Godmother Violia in Membertou. Kevin had a passion for music and was rarely without his guitar. Whether gathered around a kitchen table or sitting by a warm fire, he could be counted on to fill the air with song, bringing smiles, laughter, and a sense of togetherness. He also had a love for shooting pool, friendly competition, and sharing stories that could make anyone feel at home. His life was built on making memories — moments of laughter, music, and love that his family and friends will cherish forever. Braylon, just three years old, adored his Papa and wanted to spend every waking minute with him — often tugging him by the hand to his room to watch cartoons together or proudly show him his favorite toy. Their special bond was one of joy, patience, and unconditional love. Kevin will be deeply missed by his daughters, Tracie Johnson (Potlotek) and Erin Cote (Halifax); his sons, DJ (Sarah) Basque (Potlotek) and Jude Johnson (Toronto); grandchildren, Caleb Basque (Wasueg), Serenity Johnson (Jason), Audrina MacDonald, and Braylon MacDonald; great-grandchildren, Arianna and Sinai Johnson; and his godchildren, Jordan, Dee, Hannah, and Selena. Kevin will also be missed dearly by his many nieces and nephews, each holding a special place in his heart. Among them was his great-nephew, Henson, with whom he shared a unique and cherished friendship. He is also survived by his brothers Roddie (Lori), Byron (Rosie), and Basil (Shara), and Dennis Nevins (Carmel), all of Potlotek; and his sisters Monica Young and Nancy Isaac, both of Potlotek. He was predeceased by his wife, Sandra Basque‑Johnson; his parents; his son, Evan Dennis; his son-in-law, Brandon MacDonald; his brothers Richard, Tom, Lester “Diggit,” and Bernard Johnson; his sister, Beverly Johnson; and his youngest godchild, Ryanne Isaac. Cremation has taken place. A funeral will be held at the Salmon River Church in Berra Head on August 12th at 2:00 p.m., followed by a Salite at the Potlotek Community Hall. Burial will take place at a later date. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating Kevin’s life and the many ways he touched the hearts of those around him. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd., Arichat
