Obituary of John Leo Broussard
Please share a memory of John Leo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BROUSSARD, John “Johnny” Leo – of West Arichat, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, at the East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash. Born on August 3, 1945, in Pomquet, he was the son of the late Aloysius and Mary (Deon) Broussard.
Johnny spent many happy years working for the CNR and, later in life, briefly for Clearwater Seafoods. He had a great sense of humor and could always be counted on to share a story—whether it was about his adventures on the railroad, his siblings, or his beloved dogs, he always had a tale to tell. Johnny loved long car rides around Isle Madame with his beloved wife, Marie, and their dog, Teddy, and later, Gracie. He also devoted countless hours to his impressive vegetable garden and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. And let’s not forget Saturday nights—those were always reserved for dancing with Marie!
He leaves behind brothers-in-law, Amedee (Helen) LeJeune from Enfield and Arthur (Wendy) LeJeune from Yarmouth; brothers, Louis (Mildred), Tom (Evelyn), Arthur (Lorraine) and sister, Margaret (Francis) all of Pomquet; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Marie LeJeune; siblings Marie (Simon), James (Eve), Joe, Clarence, Frank, and Alex; his mother-in-law, Lucille LeJeune; and his brother-in-law, Tony Forgeron; sister, Hattie (Billy).
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at East Cumberland Lodge for the compassionate care they provided to Johnny during his time there.

A heart of gold stopped beating,
Working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts, reminding us
He only calls home the best.
Leaves and flowers may wither,
The golden sun may set,
But the hearts that love you dearly
Are the ones that won’t forget.
