Obituary of Mary Linda Crawford

CRAWFORD, Mary Linda (nee Poirier) – 78 of Halifax, passed away peacefully at the QEII VG Hospital in Halifax on October 28, 2025. Born August 23, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Ernest and Edna Mae (Linden) Poirier of Louisdale. Born in Halifax and growing up in Louisdale, she moved to North Sydney, Dartmouth, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Colombia, Egypt, Cape Breton’s St. George’s Chanel, and finally again to Halifax, gathering lifelong friends at each location. She broke barriers, receiving her Bachelor of Education from St. Francis Xavier University and Master of Education degree from the University of Manitoba. She worked as a school teacher, principal, school board administrator, and taught in the University of Manitoba education department, positively influencing the lives of students, mentoring the next generation of educators, and forming lifelong bonds. In her retirement years she was a devoted grandmother and family member to a large extended family, continued her passion for world traveling, and maintained and grew friendships spread around the word. Linda is survived by her daughter Nicole (Juan) Saenz, Ottawa; son Brent (Megan) Crawford, Edmonton; grandchildren Gabriel and Kevin Saenz, Oliver and Ellie Crawford; brother George Poirier, Cape Breton and sister Rosalind Watson, Halifax. Linda is predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Barry William Crawford, who died in 2010 at the age of 65. Visitation will be held on November 12th, from 6-8pm in Glen Sampson Room, Louisdale. Funeral mass will take place on November 13th 11 am at St. Louis Parish, Louisdale with Rev. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial to follow in St. Louis Parish Cemetery, Louisdale.
