Obituary of Ida Elizabeth Kelly

KELLY, Ida Elizabeth of St. Peter’s It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ida Elizabeth Kelly of St. Peter’s who passed away in Halifax on November 12th, 2025. Born in St. Peter’s January 15th, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John (Ned) and Sadie (MacNeil) Sawyer. Ida worked for the Royal Bank in Ontario until she retired after thirty years and moved to St. Peter’s to enjoy the beautiful island scenery of home. Ida, would often say she and Archie lived full life with no regrets. When Ida returned home to Cape Breton, she quickly surrounded herself with old and new friends and family. She immersed herself back into the community and could always be found where ever the music was playing especially at the local festivals and Lions Hall events. Ida also loved a good card game with her friends at the tavern, Lions Hall and at her friend’s homes. Ida’s favorite holiday was Christmas, decorating, baking, sitting in front of the Christmas tree all while listening to all her favorite Christmas tunes. Ida spent a lot of time running the roads with her best friend Cindy, shopping until they dropped which would also include going out for lunch where she would always order her favorite meal, chicken quesadilla and Caesar salad. Cindy would drop by daily to Ida’s for a cup of coXee and conversations filled with jokes and laughter. Ida was a very caring and giving person who spoke and had a laugh with everyone she met. She held her friends, family and church very close to her heart and will be dearly missed by all. Ida is survived by her brothers Leo Sawyer, Cyril Sawyer, both of USA; sister, Anne Richard, St. Peter’s. Many nieces and nephews in Canada and USA. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her Husband Archibald Kelly; brother Joseph Sawyer, sister Lola MacInnis and three siblings in infancy. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral per request. A burial will take place at a later date in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, St. Peter’s. Memorial donation may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd.
