Obituary of Jean Marie Samson

With profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Marie Samson, 78, Richmond Villa, St. Peter’s, formerly of Louisdale, on Sunday, January 11, 2026. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born in Louisdale on April 10, 1947, Jean Marie was the daughter of the late Felix F. Samson and Nora (Poirier) Samson. Jean Marie was predeceased by her siblings Al (Alfred) (sister-in-law Eleanor), Paul, Irene, Mary Rose and George Raymond in infancy. She is survived by her niece, Karen Samson, Montreal, Quebec, nephew Kevin Samson, Louisdale, grand-nephew Shayne, and many cousins of the Samson/Poirier families. Following the death of her mother, Jean Marie lived at Mary’s Hill Home in Mabou with her brother Paul. When the opportunity arose, she returned to her village and was a resident of Louisdale Community Homes with her siblings, Paul and Irene. She remained in this loving and safe environment until her placement at the Richmond Villa in St. Peter’s due to declining health. Jean Marie was a long-standing member of St. Louis Catholic Women’s League for 46 years. Jean Marie was also involved with the Regional Occupation Centre (ROC) in Port Hawkesbury. As a person with challenges, these organizations brought immense joy to Jean Marie where she felt valued for her contributions to society. Jean Marie loved to play bingo, listen to music, and attended Mass regularly. The family wishes to thank all those involved in her care through the years. We are appreciative of the many acts of kindness made on behalf of Jean Marie, especially after the death of her mother. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Richmond Villa Recreation Fund. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation per request. Funeral Mass will be held on April 10, 2026, in St. Louis Church in Louisdale at 11 am, officiated by Rev. Duncan D. MacIsaac. Burial to follow in St. Louis Parish Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd., in Arichat.
