Obituary of Madeline Marie Bona

BONA, Madeline Marie, 83 of Lower L’Ardoise It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Madeline Marie Bona of Lower L’Ardoise that passed away on January 20, 2026 at St. Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Beatrice (Hiscock) Heffernan. Lena was a home maker and made the best tea biscuit, bread and old fashion pies. She loved a great kitchen party with friends, dancing, music and especially family. Our family Our family is extremely thankful and appreciative for the dedicated care that Nooxie has given to our mom for so many years so that she could stay at home where her heart wanted to be. Your thoughtfulness and appreciation will never be forgotten. She is survived by her loving husband Raymond Joseph Bona, Lower L’Ardoise; daughter Jessie “Nooxie” Bona, Lower L’Ardoise; son Raymond Thomas (Missy) Bona, Grand River; grandchildren Nadine Bona and Darryl (Keri) Bona; great grandchildren Ava, Ivy, Etta, Vinny, Bella and Joey. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, especially her nephew who was more like her brother, Melvin Heffernan. Lena was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her baby girl in infancy; brothers Richard, Thomas, John, William, Patrick, Michael, James; sisters Phoebe Landry, Mabel Joseph, Margaret MacNeil, Gertrude Hines, Theresa Jacobi and Catherine Stapleton. Visitation will take place at the Holy Guardian Angel’s Funeral Parlour in L’Ardoise on Thursday, January 22nd from 2-4pm. Funeral mass will be held at the Holy Guardian Angel’s Parish in L’Ardoise on Friday, January 23rd at 2pm with Rev. John Yake officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. A reception will follow the mass at the L’Ardoise community Hall in L’Ardoise. Memorial donations in memory of Lena can be made to the St. Martha’s Palliative Care Society, L'Ardoise volunteer fire department or to the charity of one's choice. We would like to give thanks to all the Richmond County home care staff, to the staff in the heart and stroke and to palliative care unit at the St. Martha's hospital in Antigonish. Also a special thanks to the L'Ardoise volunteer fire department. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat.
