Please share a memory of Frederick James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Frederick “Freddie” James Fougere that occured on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the age of 87 at Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston. Born in Janvrin’s Island, he is the son of the late William and Mae (LeBlanc) Fougere. Freddie is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Carol (nee George) and son Darryl (Joanne). He is also survived by his sister Theresa Hill, Janvrin’s Island, brothers-in-law Graham (Mary) George, Calvin (Judy) George, Ulysse (Vicki) George, and sister-in -law Laura (Jay) Trudell and Carol’s Uncle Floyd (Marilyn) MacDonald as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and God children. We also can’t forget to mention Clancy his beloved cat whom he spoiled just a little. Freddie was predeceased by brothers, Eldred, Ernest, Herman, Charles and sisters Mabel and Edna in infancy, Evelyn LeBlanc, Margaret Knickle, Jean Muise, Edith Burton and Thelma Manson. He is also predeceased by his mother-in law Jean (MacDonald) George and father-in law Clifford George. In the early years of their marriage, Carol and Freddie lived in in Ontario and Halifax but soon the call for home was strong and they moved back to Janvrin’s Island. In his early years he worked at the fish plant and on the draggers but soon found his forever job at Stora, spending most of his career as safety officer in the Woodlands Department. He retired in 1994 but went back the same year doing contract work. Not one to stay idle Freddie started to work for his good friend Billy Digggdon at Diggdon’s Freight. Freddie loved to drive and meet people, and this was the perfect job for him. Freddie loved life. Carol and Freddie loved to travel, Cuba being one of their favourite destinations. Camping all over the Maritimes, especially in the rain (if you know you know), he loved to tell jokes around the campfire, was pretty well game for anything especially at the Janvrin’s Island Festivals, where there maybe some pictures hanging around as evidence. Travelling to Ontario a couple of times a year to see family, going for picnics at the St. Peter’s Canal, and concerts at the Grandville Green were all things Freddie loved to do. Even at home he didn’t sit for long and visited his neighbours for a half cup of tea and a chat. Hugs from NingNing CJ. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses at Strait Richmond Hospital, his homecare workers from VON and his Continuing Care Nurses. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass and committal will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Freddie may be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society or a charity of your choice. ’Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal” Richard Puz Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd., in Arichat.
