Marchand, Joseph David, 71 of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph “David” Marchand of Dartmouth Nova Scotia on January 29th, 2026 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Halifax on January 1st, 1955, David was the son of the late Daniel and Mary (Leonie) Marchand (Samson). David spent his career as an electrician and his free time as a tinkerer; constantly working on carpentry or DIY projects in the house. He worked several jobs throughout the HRM, the longest being at C.F.B. Shearwater. His greatest joy, however, was found at the rink. A lifelong, dedicated Toronto Maple Leafs fan, his passion for the game was most evident when he was cheering on his two sons. Whether he was changing stick blades, lacing up their skates or offering advice from the stands his love for the game was clear to all. Though he was raised in the city, his heart belonged to Cape Breton. He never lost his connection to the island returning as often as he could. David is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara (Burns) Marchand, Dartmouth Nova Scotia; proud dad to his sons Neil (Melanie) Marchand, Edmonton Alberta and Michael (Kaylee) Marchand, Dartmouth Nova Scotia. His greatest honor was being papa to his grandchildren Joscelyn, Julianna, Lochlan and Breigh. He is also survived by his brother Donald (Giselle) Marchand, Belle River Ontario, and sister Shirley Marchand, Dartmouth Nova Scotia. Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his brother Jerry Marchand and his parents-in-law, Willie and Kay Burns. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held on Friday February 13th, 2026 at St. Louis Church in Louisdale at 11am with Rev. Duncan MacIsaac presiding. Committal will follow at the St. Louis Columbarium in Louisdale. A reception to follow at the St. Louis Parish Hall. Memorial donations in memory of David can be made to St. Louis Parish or to the charity of choice. Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital, Northwood Homecare and V.O.N. for their support, kindness and compassionate care shown to David over the past few years. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat Nova Scotia
