MARCHAND, Joseph Leon, 80, of Alderney Point It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Leon Marchand, which occurred at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston on March 15, 2026. Born August 11, 1945, Leon was the son of the late Amedee and Genevieve (Samson) Marchand. After losing his mother at the young age of two, he was lovingly raised by his maternal grandmother, Alma David, a bond he cherished deeply throughout his life. He was fondly known to many as “Leon à grand-mère,” a name that stayed with him and spoke to the love that shaped his early years. Leon was a proud and dedicated member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Lodge 73, Local 682 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 150 in Arichat. He took great pride in his work and was respected for his reliability, quiet strength, and the friendships he built along the way. Leon was an avid diver for many years and found peace and happiness in fishing and spending time by the water. He was an enthusiastic collector and had a deep interest in history and genealogy, often sharing stories and tracing connections that kept memories alive. He had a unique sense of humour and a quiet way about him that left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his “little sister,” Betty Ann (David) McNutt; his “little buddy,” Gerard David, to whom he was a proud godfather; his lifelong friend and “brother from another mother,” Junior (Rena) Boudreau; and his sister-in-law, Natalie Greencorn of Halifax, with whom he spoke several times a day. He will also be fondly remembered by many other family members, all of whom held a special place in his heart. Besides his parents, Leon was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary (Hallihan) Marchand, whom he missed dearly. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass and committal will be held at a later date. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Strait Richmond Hospital for their care and compassion. Memorial donations in Leon’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Strait Richmond Hospital, St. Joseph’s Parish Church, or a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home Limited in Arichat.
