SAMSON, Léon Joseph, 79 ans, d’Arichat
C’est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Léon Joseph Samson, survenu à l’hôpital régional St. Martha’s à Antigonish le 5 avril 2026. Né à Arichat, en Nouvelle-Écosse, le 5 août 1946, il était le fils de feu Joseph et Constance (David) Samson.
Léon a consacré près de 20 ans à Énergie atomique du Canada et, par la suite, a occupé divers postes, dont un poste de concierge au CSAP, avant sa retraite. Il a également siégé à divers comités et s’est impliqué activement auprès de la Fondation Terry Fox, où son dévouement et son engagement lui ont mérité de nombreuses distinctions.
On se souviendra de Léon pour son esprit vif, son souci du détail et sa détermination inébranlable. Véritable artisan dans l’âme, il croyait que chaque objet avait une utilité et trouvait souvent des façons créatives de le réparer ou de le réutiliser. Léon aimait aussi la chasse, la pêche, le jardinage, écouter de la musique country et jouer de la guitare. Au cours de ses dernières années, il est devenu membre de la Légion royale canadienne à Arichat, où il a créé de nombreuses amitiés en jouant au billard. Il aimait également participer aux parties de cartes au club New Horizon, où il appréciait la compétition amicale et les échanges taquins.
Léon laisse dans le deuil son épouse des 54 dernières années, Yvette, ainsi que ses deux filles, Noëlla et Chantal (David Tattrie). Il laisse également ses frères, Steve (Diane) et Alfred (Elaine), ainsi que de nombreux beaux-frères, belles-sœurs, neveux et nièces. Outre ses parents, il a été précédé dans la mort par son frère et sa belle-sœur, Bobby et Claire Samson, sa nièce Jolene Samson, ses beaux-parents Louis et Lorraine Samson, ainsi que sa belle-sœur Denise Samson.
La famille tient à remercier sincèrement le Dr Hewlett, le Dr Saini, le Dr MacNeil, le Dr DeRoche, le personnel infirmier ainsi que les aidants privés pour leurs soins et leur compassion. Elle souhaite également remercier du fond du cœur la famille et les amis pour leur présence, leur amour et leur soutien pendant la maladie de Léon et à la suite de son décès. Son absence laissera un vide chez tous ceux qui l’ont connu.
La crémation a eu lieu. Un service d’inhumation aura lieu à une date ultérieure au cimetière Étoile de la mer à Petit-de-Grat. Les dons à la mémoire de Léon peuvent être faits à la Fondation des soins de santé Strait Richmond.
Les arrangements funéraires ont été confiés au salon funéraire CH Boudreau, à Arichat.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Léon Joseph Samson, which occurred at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish on April 5, 2026. Born in Arichat, Nova Scotia, on August 5, 1946, he was the son of the late Joseph and Constance (David) Samson.
Léon devoted nearly 20 years to Atomic Energy of Canada and later held several positions, including a custodial role at the CSAP, before his retirement. He also served on various committees and was actively involved with the Terry Fox Foundation, where his dedication and commitment earned him numerous awards.
Léon will be remembered for his quick wit, meticulous attention to detail, and unwavering determination. A true craftsman at heart, he believed that every object had a purpose, often finding creative ways to repair or repurpose items around the house. Léon also enjoyed hunting, fishing, tending his garden, listening to country music, and playing his guitar. In his later years, he became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Arichat, where he formed many meaningful friendships while playing pool. He also enjoyed attending card games at the New Horizon Club, where he took pleasure in a little friendly competition and playful banter.
Léon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Yvette, as well as his two daughters, Noëlla and Chantal (David Tattrie). He is also survived by his brothers, Steve (Diane) and Alfred (Elaine), along with many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Claire Samson, his niece Jolene Samson, his parents-in-law Louis and Lorraine Samson, as well as his sister-in-law Denise Samson.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Hewlett, Dr. Saini, Dr. MacNeil, Dr. DeRoche, the nurses, and private caregivers for their care and compassion. They also wish to express their sincere gratitude to family and friends for their love and support throughout Léon’s illness and following his passing. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place. A committal service will be held at the Star of the Sea Cemetery in Petit-de-Grat at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Léon may be made to the Strait Richmond Health Care Foundation.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to CH Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat.
