Obituary of Joseph Gilbert Dorey

Dorey, Joseph Gilbert - 87, passed away suddenly at home with his wife by his side on March 21, 2015. Born on September 21, 1927, in Cape Auguet he was the son of the late Arthur R. and Lilly (Gaudet) Dorey. He was a long-time resident of Janvrin's Island. At the age of 16 he left for Halifax and joined the Merchant Navy, where he served with pride for seven years. After leaving the Merchant Navy he became a painter until his retirement at the age of 61. Joseph was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 150 Isle Madame for 38 years and a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in West Arichat. Left to mourn is his loving wife of 63 years, Ella Dorey (Pittman) and sons, Gilbert (Janice) of Mission BC, Terrence of Alberta, and Stephen (Angela) of Okotoks, Alberta; sisters, Mabel Bellfantaine of Dartmouth and Christine Opdebeck of Spryfield; sister-in-laws, Ruth Osborne (Hubert), Marion Wright and Millie Wilson, all of Halifax, and Evelyn Thompson (Wilfred) of Port Hawkesbury. He will be dearly missed by grandchildren Wendy (Tyler) Stewart and Trevor Dorey great-grandchildren Dominic and Carretha Stewart and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Arthur R..; brothers Everett, and Arthur; sister, Lillian Pelerine. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral Mass will take place in Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Arichat on Friday afternoon at 2P.M. with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Reception to follow at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 150 Isle Madame Burial to take place at a later date in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
