Obituary of Maurice James Drysdale

Arichat/Halifax DRYSDALE, Maurice James, 87 - Arichat, formerly of Halifax, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2015 at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston with his loving family by his side. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Howard and Mabel (Cartile) Drysdale. He will be dearly missed by his son, Nelson (Tina), Mineville; daughter, Lynn (Ronnie) Moore, Mount Uniacke; sister, Evelyn Macomber, Ottawa. He was also the proud and loving grandfather to his grandchildren; Colin, Reghan and Rebecca. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth "Betty" (Dobson) Drysdale; brother Earl and brother in law John Macomber. The last 10 years of Maurice's life were blessed with the love and friendship of Blanche Doyle of Arichat. Maurice had the great fortune of finding another best friend and confidante in Blanche. Maurice was a Veteran of the Second World War, serving in the Merchant Navy from 1944 - 1946. He joined the Regular Force (Army) and served with the RCE, North Nova Scotia Highlanders and the RCEME for 25 years. Serving in Canada, Germany and had two tours with the UN Peace Keeping Force in Egypt. He was a member of the Canadian Merchant Navy Veteran Association, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 150 Arichat and for the past ten years regularly attended Sunday Service's at St. Peter's United Church in St. Peter's. Maurice was a kind and caring gentleman who had a beautiful smile and always thought of others before himself. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held, on Oct 7, 2015 from 7:00 - 9:00pm at C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home , 633 Veterans Memorial Drive, Arichat, NS. Funeral Service will be held at the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Arichat. 11:00am, Thursday, Oct 8, 2015, with Rev. Victor A. MacLeod, B. A., M. Div. officiating. A Legion Tribute will be observed. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 150 in Arichat. Burial to take place in the Gays River United Church Cemetery in Gays River at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 150 Veterans Comfort Fund or a charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H.
