It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Patrick “Pat” Pertus, of Petit de Grat, that occurred at his home in Petit de Grat on Monday, November 1, 2021, at the age of 78 years. Born, November 9, 1942, he was the son of the late James Francis Xavier and Margaret (Doyle) Pertus. Pat was a very active member of St. Joseph’s Parish Council, Petit de Grat, and enjoyed playing music for the church and also at St. Ann Centre. Patrick was the youngest of two children. He grew up on Isle Madame in Poulamon, NS. He married his sweetheart when he was 22 years old and had 56 beautiful years with his wife and an ever-growing family. He worked as a carpenter and superintendent for Joneljim Construction in Sydney for 30 years, then Patrick and Patricia retired back home on Isle Madame to be with their many dear friends. Patrick was a devote volunteer for the community and the catholic church. He loved to entertain and play music for senior home residents as well as his friends and family. He was a lover of life, music and songwriting, sharing and gathering in music wherever he went and passing that love onto his family. Patrick was always putting family first, his family stretching far beyond as he made friends far and wide. He would travel to visit them as often as he could, and his door was always open to visitors no matter the time of day. He was a friend to all that knew him. One of his favourite travel activities was meeting new friends from different places and in the process making lifelong friends from all over. Patrick loved being outdoors as his other favourite activities were taking his family on skiing trips to Quebec, fishing and taking his family for sails on his boat during the summer months. Patrick doted on each of his children and grandchildren, he was there for every milestone and never missed a trick. He wrote songs for each of his grandchildren at their births, memories are written that will last forever. All of his children, and every person that knew him can say they were blessed to have had him in their lives. We were lucky to call him ours. Pat will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia “Pat” (Boudreau) Pertus, Petit de Grat; daughter, Frances (Glen) MacDonald, Sydney; sons, Alex Pertus (Tracy MacPhee), Northside East Bay, Jody Pertus (Patricia Gillis), Lantz; his beloved grandchildren, Breanne MacDonald-Confiant (Paul Jordan), Alicia Pyke (Tyler), James Pertus (Brooke), Morgan Pertus, Nicholas Pertus, Jessica Pertus; great-grandchildren, Nora Pyke, Ellie Pertus; he is also survived by his sister and brother in law, Roma and Jimmy Kehoe, Sydney; nieces, Paulette (Robert) Kraitzek, Claudette (Shawn) Porter; nephews, Michael (Ginette) Pertus, and Arthur Pertus.
