SAMSON, Venard Eugene, D’Escousse 1937-2023 It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we announce the death of our beloved husband, father, Pépé, Grand-Pépé, brother, godfather, and uncle. Venard Eugene Samson of D’Escousse, passed away at St. Anne Community and Nursing Care Centre, on August 20, 2023 at the age of 86 years. Venard was born on July 12, 1937, in Petit de Grat, to the late Eugene and Évangeline (David) Samson. Providing for his family was important to him. Venard started working at an early age at Booths Fisheries. He developed a passion for trucking and fishing. He drove trucks for Samson Sand & Gravel (Alphonse Samson) earlier in his adult life. He then became Captain of the Milton and Joan and The Divecon 1 as he fished for groundfish in the Atlantic. As the fishing stocks dwindled, he returned to trucking and worked for Premium Seafoods. He retired from Superior Contracting at the age of 76. Venard was an amazing storyteller and a real people person. He loved to meet people and reminisce about the olden days. He enjoyed the many kitchen parties and loved listening to music. He was so proud of his children and loved to have Sunday meals and gatherings every week to bring everyone together. Venard loved his dog “Charlie”! He loved to bring him for drives and give him sweet treats. Charlie was never too far from Venard’s side. Venard will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years Susan, his son Dwayne (Carla), D'Escousse; daughters Sonia (Jim Reid), Arichat, Janet (Ronnie) LeBlanc, D'Escousse, Penny (Donald) Martell, Poulamon, Ramona (Weldon) Boudreau, Stillwater Lake, and Daydree (Dwayne) Samson, Little Anse; grandchildren Keegan (Kendra), Jordan, Devon, Josée, Sophie, Adèle, and Dalton; great-grandchildren Ava, Rhea, and Ellie; brother Omer (Evelyn) Samson, Alderney Point; sisters Claire (Bennie) Brushett, Boudreauville, and Ethel Martell, Petit de Grat. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Elaine Samson. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat on Tuesday, August 29th, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. A funeral mass to celebrate the life of Venard will be held on Wednesday, August 30th at 11 am in St. Joseph's Church, Petit de Grat with Rev. Jean Baptiste DeCoste officiating. Burial to take place in the Star of the Sea Cemetery, Petit de Grat. A reception will follow the committal at the D'Escousse Civic Improvement Centre, in D'Escousse.
