BURKE, John Henry John Henry, age 94, of River Bourgeois, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2024, at the Richmond Villa, St. Peters NS surrounded by his family. He was born on December 31, 1929, the tenth of 16 children to Joe P and Clara (Landry) Burke. He will be sadly missed by daughter Colleen, Halifax; sons Neil (Maureen), River Bourgeois, and Russell (Mabel), Timberlea. Seven grandchildren, who were his pride and joy Tasha Lynn (Dan), Stouffville, ON; Joel (Britney), Halifax; Alisha (David), Toronto; Luke (Marla), Prince George, BC; Kristine (Matt), Laura (Hunter), and Sarah, Halifax. Three very special great grandchildren who always made him smile, Foster, Madison and Fitz. John was predeceased by his wife Alma; sisters Margaret and Anna; brothers, Vitus, Alex, Raymond, Anthony, Ernest, Freddie, Edward and Roderick. He is survived by sisters Theresa, River Bourgeois; Irene and Mary, Halifax, Emily (Fred) Ottawa; and his brother Richard (Lise), Petawawa, ON. John worked on lake boats, Imperial Oil tankers, road construction and the Pulp Mill in Port Hawkesbury. After his retirement he and Alma spent many years travelling around the Northeastern United States, Quebec and Atlantic Canada in their travel trailer with family, and the many friends they met along the way. There will be no visitation per request. Funeral Mass that was scheduled for February 5th, has been cancelled due to inclement weather and is now re-scheduled at St. John the Baptist Parish Church, Church Point Road, River Bourgeois, with Rev. Earl Smith and Rev. John Yake officiating on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 3:00 p. m. Interment in at St. John the Baptist Cemetery at a later date. Reception to follow at the Tara Lynn Community Centre, River Bourgeois. Donations in his memory may be made to the River Bourgeois Visitation Parlour or the St John the Baptist Cemetery Fund. The family would like to thank Dr. Collins, and the staff at the Richmond Villa, St. Peters for their compassionate care. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H.
