Obituary of Laurie Joseph Smith

SMITH, Laurie Joseph Sr., 87 of Arichat, passed peacefully at St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish on January 21, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Walter Smith/StepFather Thomas Warner and Myrtle Warner. Laurie will be sadly missed by his daughters Gloria (Robert) Samson, Pauline, Halifax; sons Paul (Anne), Boudreauville, Laurie Jr. (Audrey), Calgary, Michael (Elaine) Halifax. Grandchildren Tracy, John, Aimee, Scott, Ryan, Joel, Craig, Ashley, Gloria, Jennifer, Andrew, Matthew, Amanda, Jodi, Josh, Courtney, Paige and 16 great -grandchildren. He was predeceased by the love of his life, wife Rita Smith; daughters Theresa Eggenheizen, Alma, son Walter; grandson Tanner; and half sister Helen Perrin. In later years Laurie worked as a service technician with GBC where he won several awards for his outstanding service and retired in 1996. Laurie had a great sense of humour, was always kind and generous and loved to whistle. A special thank you to Dr. Emily Rice and Dr. Phillip Cooper and the staff of the PCU unit St Martha's Hospital who were wonderful during our difficult time.

Visitation will be held in C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd in Arichat on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will take place in Our Lady of Assumption Church in Arichat on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial will take place in Our Lady of Assumption Parish Cemetery, Arichat at a later date. Reception to follow the mass in Our Lady of Assumption Parish Hall, Arichat. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Martha's Palliative Care Society or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd, Arichat.
