Obituary of Joseph Anthony Samson

Samson, Joseph A. (Tony)- 88, Louisdale, Rich. Co. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who passed away on September 3, 2012. Born in Louisdale, Richmond Co. on December 31, 1923, he was the son of the late Henry and Virginia (Marchand) Samson. He was a member of the Argyle Sutherland Highlanders in 1944-45 and has been a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 150, Isle Madame. He was by trade an electrician and worked in Sydney, Halifax, and Port Hawesbury. He was appointed by the province, and served as a Commissioner of Oaths from 1971 to 2009. He was a chartered member of the Louisdale Lion's Club and worked fervently for the community in this capacity. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances (McGrath) and children: Debbie Samson (Bobby), Paul (Janice) of Louisdale; Steve (Cheryl) of Alberta, Ronnie (Dawn) of Milford, Mort (Heather) of Dartmouth, and Natalie (Shawn) of Truro. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jonah, Janeen, Jennifer, Jeremy, Amy, Michael, Candace, Carley, Chloee, Shannon, Ryan, Sherri, Allison, and Travis, as well as great-grand children: Abby, Sarah, Jack, Alex, Adele, Sophie, and Norah. He is last member of his immediate family and, besides his parents was predeased by sisters, Mabel, Delia, Stella, and brothers Howard and Leonard. Visitation will be in The Glen Samson Room in Louisdale on Wednesday, September 5th from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral mass will be held at the St. Louis Parish, Thursday, September 6th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the St. Anne's Centre, Arichat or Our Lady of the Rosary Park, Louisdale.
