Obituary of Hilaire M. Samson

Samson, Hilaire M. - 92, Of Arichat, formerly of Louisdale, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2012 in the QE11 Health Science Centre, Infirmary Site, Halifax. Born January 2, 1920 in Louisdale, he was the son of the late Felix and Melina (Landry) Samson. Hilaire served in Canada, United Kingdom and Continental Europe with the Royal Canadian Artillery from June 19, 1941 to November 15, 1945. He was an exceptional welder and blacksmith by trade, with a most recent recognition and reward in 2012 by Caterpillar for his patent work on wheel tractor-scrapers. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by daughters, Eileen (Cecil) Slater, Louisdale. Judy (John) MacNeil, Iona and Carol Ann (Bobby) MacPhee, Louisdale; sons, John (Julie-Ann and Blair (Cathy) both of Louisdale; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence; grandson, Gerard; daughter-in-law Julie Anne; sisters, brothers and sisters, Jane, Hilaire, Lizer, Felix, Ernest, Baptiste, Joseph, Clarence, Caroline, Arthur, Mary, Virginia, Johnnie and Beatrice. There will be a private family visitation. Cremation to follow with burial at a later date in St. Louis Parish Cemetery in Louisdale. Memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army.
