Obituary of Vernon Fraser Boyd

BOYD, Vernon Fraser - 46, Dartmouth, formerly of River Bourgeois, Cape Breton passed away peacefully at home in River Bourgeois on January 18, 2013 with his family by his side. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Catherine Ann "Kay" (Sampson) Boyd and the late Fraser Boyd. Vernon will be missed by the many friends and people whose lives he touched with his kind heart and contagious laugh. He was a member of the IBEW Local 1852 and will be sadly missed by his union brothers. He leaves behind his 1991, Olds Royale 88 "Elsie" that took him across Canada from Saskatchewan back to us in Nova Scotia. He had a love for his old vehicles, as well as the love of baseball, hockey and his favorite team "The Canadians" Vernon took great pleasure in challenging crossword puzzles and enjoyed sharing them with his mother-in-law until her passing and then continued to do so with his family which he truly enjoyed spending quality time with. He is survived by his best friend and wife, Tina (Kelly), Dartmouth; his children, Corey, St. Johns Nfld; Megan (Nick), Ship Harbour; dear brother of Monica Hamnes (Helge), Dartmouth, Brenda Boyd-Burke (Glenn), Lower Sackville, Judy Boyd (Cliff), Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews, Patricia, Christin, Jonathan, Corey, Megan, Matthew, Logan and Blaike; great niece and nephew, Madison and Jordan; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many in-laws and his faithful companion, Charlie (his dog) who will miss him dearly. "Jessie" Vernon's special dog will be waiting for him in Heaven. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-9 pm in the River Bourgeois Community Funeral Parlour in River Bourgeois. Mass of Christian Farewell to celebrate the life of Vernon will be held Tuesday morning at 11 am in St. John the Baptist Church, River Bourgeois with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating. Cremation to follow. Internment will take place in St. John the Baptist Parish Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Lung Association Nova Scotia or to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of the late Fraser Boyd, Vernon's dad . A reception will follow the mass at the Tara Lynn Community Centre, River Bourgeois. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat.
