Obituary of Francis Xavier Martell

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing, of Francis Xavier Martell, 97 of Pondville on September 14, 2014 at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston. Born in Pondville he was the son of the late Felix and Roseanne (Fougere) Martell. Francis was a former employee of the Nova Scotia Power Commission for 42 years and a former member of the Lawrence Kavanaugh Council 4607 in West Arichat. He enjoyed going to cards plays. Francis was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his daughter, Leona Boudreau (Raymond), Pondville; sons, Roderick "Roy", Thunder Bay ON, Earl (Helen), Pondville; grandchildren, Kim Gunnell (John), Melanie and Stacey Boudreau, Trevor Boudreau (Crystal), Kevin Martell (Sharleen) and Keith Martell (Raylene); great-grandchildren, Hannah and Brady Boudreau, Tanner and Riley Martell, Coady McGrady, Austin Martell, James and Kalen Gunnell; He was predeceased by his wife, Hilda (Agnes (Doyle) Martell; brothers, James, Albert, Clarence, Venard, Amedee, and twin brother Leo; sister, Clara MacDonald; daughter-in-law, Judy Martell. Visitation will be held in C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 7 - 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Farewell will be held on Friday morning at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Arichat with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the Our Lady of Assumption Parish Cemetery, Arichat. A reception will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Parish Hall following the committal. Memorial donations can be made to St Anne Community & Nursing Care Centre in Arichat or to the charity of one's choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Lawrence MacNeil and the Home Support Workers who took excellent care of Francis while he was in their care.
