Obituary of Evangeline Claire Bona

Please share a memory of Evangeline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, Claire Evangeline Bona, 90, of Port Royal, N.S., on Saturday, November 15, 2014. Born in Port Royal, she was the daughter of the late John and Clara (Boudreau) Doiron. Evangeline is now joined with her dear husband, Francis Numan, who predeceased her in 2006. Affectionately known to her family as 'Mama', she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A beacon of strength and determination throughout her illness, she died at home where she and Papa raised their family. A faithful woman of prayer, Mama held a special devotion to St. Anne and made many annual visits to the shrine in Beaupre, Quebec. Mama's passage through life was dedicated to her family. Her quiet and gentle guidance will be greatly missed. She delighted in being with family at many gatherings, and has left us with a legacy of many wonderful memories. Besides travelling, she enjoyed playing cards, especially crib. Evangeline is survived by her five children: Claire (Leo Boyd), John (Elsie), Rene (Donna), Lucien (Joan), and Maureen (Jay Goodwin). She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Gregoire (Joanie), Gillis (Vicki), John (Maggie), Tommy (Natasha), Marcel (Joscelyn), Keene (Kim), Chad, Craig (Jennifer), Crystal (Owen Gottschalk), Bradley (Jennifer), and Tracy (Ryan Le Forte). Mama took great pride in her great-grandchildren, Maxemelian, Cameron, Jaden, Alyssa, Morgan, Kali, Nicholas, Kole, Abigail, Sara, Jackson, Ben, Kylie, Ava, Chloe, and Sophia; sister-in-law, Margaret Doiron and many nieces and nephews.. Besides her husband and parents, Evangeline was predeceased by her granddaughter, Leona Boyd, daughter-in-law, Sharon Bona, sisters, Irene, Margaret, Lillian, Marie; brothers, Wallace, Stanley, Vincent, Clement, Fred George and David. We wish to acknowledge the efforts of emergency responders. Special appreciation is extended to her long-time physician, Dr. Laurie MacNeil, staff of Strait Richmond Hospital, home care support workers and her caregiver, Ruth Kehoe. Visitation will take place in C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home, in Arichat on Monday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 11 am in Our Lady of Assumption Church in Arichat, with Father Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home in Arichat.
