Obituary of Irene Marie Samson

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our dear sister, aunt and friend, Irene Marie Samson, 71, of Louisdale, that occurred at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Monday, January 5, 2015. Born in Louisdale, she was the daughter of the late Felix and Nora (Poirier) Samson. Irene was a 14-year member of St. Louis Catholic Women's League and enjoyed being part of the Fleur de Lis Seniors Club. For the past 16 years, Irene made her home at Louisdale Community Homes where she enjoyed times spent with an outstanding team of caring staff and fellow residents who were her second family. Irene's compassionate heart, constant smile and good nature will be sorely missed. Irene is survived by her siblings, Alfred (Al), Lachine, Quebec; Paul, Louisdale; Jean Marie, St. Peter's; niece, Karen Samson, nephew, Kevin Samson and grand nephew Shayne Gallagher, as well as her extended family. Besides her parents, Irene was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Rose; brother, George, in infancy; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Samson. The family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt appreciation the support of the Board of Directors and staff of Louisdale Community Homes. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Louis Church, Louisdale, with Father Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in St. Louis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Louisdale Community Homes Activity Fund, or a charity of one's choice.
