Brannen, (Martell) Rita Mae 88, Little Anse, Richmond County - It is with great sadness that the family of Rita Mae Brannen announces her passing on March 1, 2015. Rita died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Born on December 25,1926, Rita was the daughter of the late Willie and Obeline(Samson) Martell. In 1944, Rita married Irvin Brannen and they moved from Shag Harbour, Shelburne Co. to make Little Anse their home. Rita worked at Booth Fisheries and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 47, St. Peter's. Rita was a kind and gentle soul with a heart of gold. She loved unconditionally and enjoyed making people feel welcome and often times, that meant making sure you didn't go hungry. She was infamous for her peas on toast and coconut cream pie. Strong family values and her faith in God will live on forever in her and those closest to her. Rita is survived by her sister Marybell Martel, Little Anse, and loving family Della Thibeau (Ted) Petit De Gart; Godchild Marlene Martell. Tina Foley (Rich), Brian Thibeau (Julie), both of Halifax; Rodney Thibeau(Grace), D'Escousse; Allana Scanlan and Makayla Scanlan. Rita will be sadly missed by five special little people who brightened her days whenever they visited. She cherished every special moment with Brett Thibeau, Tyson Foley, Isabelle Thibeau, Annik Foley and Emilie Thibeau and could be heard asking about the timing of their next visit even before they had said their goodbyes. Rita is also survived by extended family and friends in Shag Harbour, Shelburne Co.
