Obituary of Susan Clemance Murphy

Port Hawkesbury/D'Escousse Susan Murphy (Nee Pertus) passed away peacefully on February 29, 2016 at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Born on December 10, 1918, Susan was the daughter of the late Leonard Pertus and Florence Doyle. She has left us to join her sister Loretta, and brothers Timothy and John. She will be missed by her sister Jeanetta, daughter Joan, son-in-law Joseph Mainguy, grandchildren Catherine (Michael Simard), Robert (Noëmi Plante), great grandchildren, Alexandre, James and William Simard, Jérémy Mainguy and many nieces and nephews. Susan was the Postmaster in D'Escousse for 25 years. She was an active member of St. Hyacinth's Parish and the Catholic Women's League. She was a devoted volunteer in the community and a founding member of the D'Escousse Civic Improvement Society. She had been on the board of the St. Anne's Centre. As a retired Postmaster she was also one of Santa's helpers. A very special thank you to cousin Pat Pertus for his devotion and kindness throughout the years. Also, a heartfelt thank you to the staff and wonderful caregivers of the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home for making Susan's last years dignified, comfortable and joyful. Susan will be missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all those who knew her. Visitation will take place on Sunday March 13th from 2 to 5 p.m. at C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Parish Church, Petit de Grat, on Monday, March 14th at 11 a.m. Susan's funeral mass will be celebrated by her good friend, Father John DeCoste. A memorial celebration of Susan's life and burial of her ashes will be held at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the D'Escousse Civic Improvement Society Scholarship Fund or Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H.Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd.
