Obituary of Gerard Michael Touesnard

TOUESNARD, GERARD MICHAEL - 86, River Bourgeois, Richmond County, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the QEII hospital in Halifax on October 22, 2006. Born in River Bourgeois, he was the son of the late Emile and Minnie (Samson) Touesnard. He spent his early years in the Merchant Marines and later became a member of the Carpenter's Union. Most of his life was dedicated to farming and he was well known for his excellent farming skills. Gerard will be remembered for his great knowledge of historical facts and for names of community activities and people. He had a witty sense of humor and loved spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed and remembered by his son Adrian (Tena), River Bourgeois; daughters, Vivian (Howard) Sampson, Mary Agnes (Bobby) Sampson, Darlene (Dave) Sampson, all of Louisdale; two sisters, Regina Tibeau, Ontario and Katherine Touesnard, River Bourgeois; grandchildren, Rhonda, Krista, Blair, Daunette, Christian, Michelle, Claudine, and Kimberly and nine great-grandchildren. Gerard was predeceased by his wife Cecilia; grandchildren Tara Lynne and Darryl; brothers Allan, Joseph, Ernest, Dave, Richard, Roderick and sister, Mary Ellen Poirier. Visitation will take place Tuesday, October 24, from 7-9 pm and on Wednesday, October 25, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm in the River Bourgeois Community Funeral Parlor, River Bourgeois. Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, October 26, at 11 am in St John the Baptist Church, River Bourgeois with Rev. Hugh D. MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in St John the Baptist Parish Cemetery, River Bourgeois. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Strait Richmond Hospital Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, or to a charity of your choice.
