I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Msgr. Girroir from my family back East. He was such an awesome and influential man. Knowing him in the church for many years made me have a great respect for him. Spending time visiting him at St. Anne's Center last year during my return to Isle Madame gave me an opportunity to share his great wit and sense of humour. May God strengthen you all through the dark days ahead and may you celebrate the memory of his legacy and the knowledge that he is now in the arms of Jesus.
To the Girroir Family, Sister Nancy and Sophie: Our sincere condolences go out to your family on the passing of Msgr. Conrad. He will always have a place in our hearts as a loving, humorous, gentle and holy man. He was the family patriarch when Aunt Mabel passed away and commanded much respect. He was so loved by his parishioners and family alike. He will be remembered for a long time to come. He married us in 1951 and our daughter and son-in-law in 1977. Msgr. Conrad will truly be missed but not forgotten. Our prayers are with you. Your loving cousins, Bertha and Emmett O'Reilly
Dear Family of Father Gerrior, I would like to extend my sincere condolences. Living in West Arichat for 10 years and being welcomed by Father Gerrior was so heartfelt and comforting. Becoming a member of the West Arichat CWL brought me closer to the church and with the guidence of such wonderful ladies such as Sister Nancy and Marilyn Mackay. Let us pray.
It was with a sad heart that I received the news of Pere Girroir's passing. My condolences to all his family and parishioners in Ile Madame. I have fond memories of his wit and down-to-earth sermons. His influence in my life will be remembered with fondness and the utmost respect. Que le bon Dieu recoit ta bonne humeur au ciel comme on l'a bien recue sur terre!
Dear Sister Nancy, All of you of Isle-Madame, Just a few words to express my gratitude to God for the joy of having lived for a while on Isle-Madame. During my three years spent among you, Msgr Girroir had been for me a good friend and a father. My heart is with you in prayer, and especially at Mass, to entrust Conrad to the Eternal Father. God bless you all+
We want to express our deepest sympathy to the family at this time. Your family and my Mother's family have grown up together, and remained friends throughout their respective lives. Msgr. Conrad would borrow Mom's Reporter to catch up on the news when Mom was a resident at St. Anne's Community & Nursing Care Centre. They would chat about West Arichat. May he rest in peace. Dear Friends: I want to extend sympathy to all who mourn the loss of this good priest. I have special reasons to be grateful to him for acts of kindness he extended to me. This makes it painful for me to be unable to attend the wake or funeral. Be assured of my condolences, very best wishes and prayers for him and for you all. Sincerely in our Brother and Lord. Fr. Angus MacLeod
Until Bishop Vernon Fougère came to our parish in Louisdale, Father Girroir was the only priest I had ever known. During his time with us, he earned the trust and respect of virtually everyone with whom he came into contact, especially us children. Beyond the many altar boy excursions he sponsored, I fondly remember his leadership in helping us form the Young Christian Student (YCS) organization and his subsequent attempts to have us truly think about issues surrounding our faith journey. Beyond the sometimes uncomfortable silences, most often, his questions forced us to think far more deeply than we believed possible but, always, we left the old glebe house feeling challenged and supported by Father Girroir. Again, he was someone we knew we could trust, truly a man of God who helped my generation build a solid foundation of faith. My deepest sympathy goes out to family and friends as we now step back and celebrate an extraordinary life.
I met Fr Gerroir most times I visited the Island, usually at Gulliver's Kitchen. He always made a point of speaking to me as I suppose he did to all. My condolences to all as I am sure he will be missed by all. Sincerely ,Audrey Murphy , Bedford, N.S
What a joy to be able to have met this wonderful man at our Genealogy summits in 2000-2004 and our other visits to Isle Madame. His good humour and wonderful friendliness and compassion were always understated. He will be on the express elevator to our Creator. God Bless him and his family.
My husband and I the good fortune to meet Msgr. Girroir five years ago while on a genealogy exploration trip to Isle Madame. He agreed to meet with us to answer my questions about the island and my ancesters who had lived there. He provided some excellent information about Acadia and insisted that we dine at his home with his cousin and sister who were visiting. He took two stangers from Massachusetts into his home and showed us hospitality and great kindness. I will always remember that special visit. My condolences to the family of this wonderful man.
Monsieur Girroir was a very very good man.
My sincere condolences goes out to the family of Rev Father Girroir. Growing up in the community of Louisdale, he was the only priest I ever knew. He was a very well respected man throught The Parish all of his life. To serve as an Altar Boy for him as a young boy, was an honour for me. Memories I carry with me to this day. He will sadly be missed.
We wish to send our deepest sympathy to the family of Msgr. Conrad Girroir . May he rest in peace , he was a wonderful Priest/friend ,always willing to go the extra mile to help someone. He was the Priest who married us, baptized our first born Jonathan and was there to officiate our 25 th wedding anniversary mass and attended our reception. He sure made us laugh ," asking both Harold and I,(Darlene) if we wanted to keep each other after 25 yrs. married ". We will always have fond memories of him in our hearts. God bless him may his soul rest in peace.
I first met Msgr. Girroir when he officiated at the funeral mass of my grandfather, on my mother's side, Wilfred Fougere, of Poulomon. Twenty years later during my genealogical researh of the Gerriors, Girroirs etc. internationally, I wondered about the connection if any to Msgr. Conrad Girroir. I visited his home and soon found out. He was very excited about the idea of sharing genealogy information In fact, so much so, that he took me all around Isle Madame, visiting all the Girroir, Gerroir, Gerrior families. He invited me into his home for a week and we had a wonderful time making connections to various families. Later, Fr Girroir actively participated in genealogical workshops and officiated for family reunion masses which were part of the many reunions which I had organized. He even attended one of the reunions in Louisiana. He told me once that next to his ordination as a Priest, the family reunions were his biggest thrill in life. He made many connections to the Girroirs in the USA on both his mother and his father's side. My wife, Audrey, and I offer our deepest condolences to friends and relatives of Fr Conrad P, Girroir. He will always be fondly remembered. Bill and Audrey Gerrior
