Obituary of Mary Frances Digout

Digout, Mary Frances — 97, St. Peters formerly of River Bourgeois, On July 16th, 2010, a truly great spirit left the world to be with her Lord. Frances died peacefully at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston with family at her side. Born in River Bourgeois on May 28, 1913 she was the daughter of the late Helaire and Ida (Sampson) Bourque She was a lifelong member and generous supporter of St. John the Baptist Church and a Member of the Parish C.W.L.. A graduate of the Provincial Normal College, Truro, Frances began her teaching career at Charles Cove, Guysborough Co., followed by 36 years of teaching in River Bourgeois. A very capable teacher, she was loved and respected by students and staff, many of whom became lifelong friends. A terrific homemaker, a loving mother and wife, Frances was also a skilful artist. She loved the sea and nature and this was depicted in her paintings. She and her husband Leo were often seen sports fishing in St. Peter's Bay, digging clams or just enjoying the ocean. Painting could have been a second career if not for the loss of her eyesight which curtailed some physical activities but never her spirit. To the very end of her life she engaged in lively conversations with her friends about local and world affairs. Her sense of humour and wit were remarkable. Frances is survived by daughters Elaine Chouinard (Art), Calgary AB, Estelle Campbell, St. John, NB Grandchildren Carey, Christine, André, Yvonne, Elaine, Edwin, Sean, Derek, Danny, Shannon and Dale. and many Great Grandchildren Sister: Marie Boucher Sisters In law Margaret Bourque, Ethel Fougere, and Maude Bourque, Son In Law Len Deveau many nieces and nephews She was predeceased by her husband Leo, daughter Yvonne brothers Dr. Joseph Bourque, Ernest Bourque, and Claude Bourque The last five years of her life were spent at the Richmond Villa, St. Peters. The family wishes to thank her caregivers for their kindness and compassion and also the staff of the Strait Richmond Hospital. A very special Thanks to Theresa Kyte and the late Robert for their love and innumerable acts of kindness. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 in the River Bourgeois Community Funeral Home, River Bourgeois. Mass of Christian Farewell will be held in St John the Baptist Church in River Bourgeois on Wednesday, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Everett MacDow officiating. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, River Bourgeois. Memorial donations can be made to the C.N.I.B , Cancer Society or Charity of Choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H.
