Obituary of Marie Retha Marchand

Marchand, Marie Retha (Rita) - 89 passed away peacefully with family at her side on July 29, 2010 at the Carleton Lodge in Nepean (Ottawa) Ontario where she received loving care for more than ten years. Born in Louisdale Nova Scotia on October 24, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Laurent and Elizabeth (Boudreau) Samson. She was the last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Godfrey Marchand. Together they raised their family in Kempt Road, Richmond County before moving to Ontario in the 1960s. Rita was a tremendous homemaker and a loving mother and wife who instilled strong religious values in her family. She is survived by her daughters Joan Millet (Serge) Ottawa; and Pat Gaudet (John) Bedford; and her sons Godfrey (Noreen) Mabou; and Raymond (Mary Lou) Kanata; her grandchildren Jean Paul, Steven, Darlene, Craig, Laura, Krista, and Natalie and great-grandchildren Xavier, Gabrielle, and Dominic; sisters-in-law Vina, Priscille, and Blanche and brother-in-law Benny, as well many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sisters Obeline, Cecile, Maggie, Mary and Vergie and by brothers Jimmy, Abram, Lawrence and Joseph and a brother Raymond in infancy. Visitation will be held in the Glen Sampson Room in Louisdale on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Farewell will take place in St. Louis Church, Louisdale on Tuesday August 3, 2010 at 2pm officiated by Rev. Angus MacDougall.
