Gordon Neil Ellis, West Arichat

With broken hearts we announce the death of Gordon Neil Ellis on March 7, 2018 at the his home in West Arichat at the age of 64. Gordie was a loving and devoted husband to Jeannette Ellis (Benoit) for 42 years. Proud dad to his son Curtis Ellis (Sandra), Toronto and daughter Christal Ellis, Amherst. He was blessed with 4 wonderful grandchildren, Chloe, Jayden, Dante, and Ethan whom he wished he could have spent more time with. Gordie is survived by his brother, Hal Ellis (Teresa), Cooks Brooks and nephew Jason, Kentville. Also survived by his father in law James Benoit, Richmond Villa, brothers in law Vincent Benoit (Delia), Leonard Benoit (Kim), Douglas Benoit, Henry Benoit (Stephanie), Michael Benoit Benoit (Anita), and 14 nieces and nephews. Gordie was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Zelma Ellis; nephew Jeffery Ellis; mother in law Theresa Benoit; brothers in law Bennie and Francis; sister in law Delores. Gordie started his career with the Conrad Brothers in Dartmouth before moving to Cape Breton in 1982. Even though he wasn’t born here he always felt he was a Cape Bretoner. He worked with the Millwright Union for several years and the last 15 years was employed with Nova Scotia Power in Point Tupper. He loved his job and the people he worked with. Gordie was very involved with the Northside Recreation Association, D’Escousse Civic Improvement Society, New Horizon’s Senior’s Club and the International Brother Hood of Electrical Worker’s Union Local #1928. He had many friends and would do anything he could to help anyone. Gordie enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening and just enjoying nature. Since 2011 he enjoyed his little piece of Paradise on Grand Lake. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place in C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home in Arichat on Sunday March 11^th, from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Arichat on Monday, March 12th at 2 pm with Rev. Michel Exalant officiating. Burial will be held in Our Lady of Assumption Cemetery in Arichat. Memorial donations can be made to the Isle Madame Food Bank or to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society. A reception will be held following the committal at the New Horizon’s Seniors Club in Arichat.
