SAMPSON, Vivian Marie, Louisdale

It is with saddened hearts that we have to announce the passing of Vivian Marie Sampson, 71 of Louisdale on December 20, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 10, 1947, in River Bourgeois, she was the daughter of the late Gerard Michael and Cecilia Elizabeth (Sampson) Touesnard. Vivian is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Howard Sampson, Louisdale; daughter Daunette Timmons, (Grant), Port Hawkesbury; son, Blair Gerard, (Carole), Kelowna, BC; grandchildren, Michael, Natalie, Brant and Marc; brother, Adrian Touesnard (Tena), River Bourgeois; sisters, Mary Agnes Sampson (Robert), Louisdale, Darlene Turple (Vernon), Pictou as well as several nieces and nephews. Vivian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, Aunt, cousin and friend. She was the core of her family always organizing and preparing for family gatherings at her most cherished place “The Cottage”. She devoted herself to her family, friends and community. She had very strong community ties and was always found volunteering for something or dropping off baked goods to neighbours just to brighten their day. She and her walking partner Ida could be found roaming the streets of Louisdale everyday, something they did faithfully for many years. Vivian was proud to be a long-standing member of the Lion’s Club and was given the well-deserved title of Lion of the Year in 2017. She was a member of the CWL for the majority of her adult life dating back to the years she lived in River Bourgeois where she and her husband Howard owned and operated Samson’s Grocery. When they moved to Louisdale she continued as a member of the CWL there. It was in Louisdale that she opened a Bed and Breakfast where she welcomed friends and strangers who left as friends for several years. She enjoyed this time in her life as she was able to meet new people, socialize and entertain making anyone who stepped in her house feel at home. A humble woman she was always thinking of others before herself and never realizing the impact, she had on every person she touched. Vivian was bigger than life and always put every ounce of her heart into everything she did from cooking and baking, ceramics, arts and crafts, crocheting, sewing and even taking on a barber’s role for friends. Reading was one of her passions so it was a natural fit that she belonged to a Reading Club. She would canvas the neighbourhood for any cause and she volunteered at the Foodbank with her husband Howard on a regular basis. Vivian was a lady of deep faith which led her to singing in the church choir in Louisdale. She will be fondly remembered as a fun-loving woman who loved life and made every day count. She was very proud of her family and treasured her grandchildren immensely. Her heart and soul are left behind for us to cherish and her memory will live on within everyone who knew her. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2018 from 3 – 8pm in the Glenn Sampson Room in Louisdale. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, December 24, 2018 at St Louis Church, Louisdale at 10am with Rev. Duncan MacIsaac presiding. Interment will take place in St. Louis Parish Cemetery in Louisdale. Memorial donations can be made to the Strait Richmond Hospital Foundation or to St. Louis Cemetery Fund. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat.
