MARTELL Shirley Ann – Arichat

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Martell, age 66 of Arichat, who passed away peacefully on April 16, 2019 at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 14, 1953 in Arichat, she was the daughter of the late George Alexander and Alvina (Boudreau) Martell.

Shirley grew up in Little Anse and from a young age she formed a close bond with her family.  She dedicated her life to caring for her grandparents, Florie and Alexie Boudreau, and then went on to care for her Aunt Florence and Uncle Charlie, whom were both very special to her.  Although Shirley never had any biological children of her own, she displayed the love and dedication of a mother to her nephews and nieces, all of which were her top pride and joy and the centre of her universe.

Shirley was a dedicated and tireless worker for her church and community. She was an active member of the St. Joseph's Parish CWL and the Isle Madam New Horizons Seniors Club.  When she wasn’t lending a helping hand to anyone in need, Shirley enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbours, watching her favorite Soap Opera and dancing the night away to country music at the local community events.  Shirley was best known for her delicious cooking and love of baking, and no one ever left her home with an empty belly.

She is survived by her best friend and only brother, Paul (Linda) Martell, Petit de Grat; nephew and Godchild, Wesley (Terra) Martell and his children, Mattie and Chase, of Pomquet; Kimberley (Timmy Clannon) Martell and her children, Neveah and Khalley, of Little Anse; Courtney, of Petit de Grat; step-mother, Ethel Martell and her children, Alfred (Therese) Boudreau, Wayne (Therese) Boudreau, Howard Boudreau, Karen (Robert) Roach, Andrea (Albert) Landry; as well as, many special family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her step-sister, Nora (Thomas) Landry.
