Joseph Roy Richard

November 29, 1953 – April 29, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Roy Richard, at home, surrounded by his family. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 43 years, Giselle, and his children, Ryan (Jillian), Bailey and Angel (Jacob Gould) as well as Jason LeBlanc. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Aurine), Glen (Donna) both of Arichat, and Andre of Kentville; grandchildren, Lacey, Lindsay, and Reese. He was predeceased by a grandson, Lexton LeBlanc and his parents, Simon and Lorraine Richard.

Roy had many trades/skills and worked in various workplaces... deckhand for Richmond Fisheries, pulp cutter with Nova Scotia Forest Industries, many years in the teamsters union allowed him to work as a truck driver on the NB pipeline, and in recent years, he was a lobster fishing crew member on the (Della & Donna) with his friends Douglas and Louis Boudreau. 

He was a member of the Isle Madame RC Legion Br. 150, a long-time member of the Isle Madame Volunteer Fire Department, and on the Coast Guard Search and Rescue team.

Roy always loved music, dancing, a good time, a house full of company, and taught his friends and kids how to dance the “Chester”.  On the other hand, he was a man of faith, and we have no doubt that he met up with all his family at the “pearly gates.” In his memory, donations will be accepted for the IWK Children’s Wish Foundation or to the Strait Richmond Hospital Palliative Care Society.

Visitation will take place in C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd in Arichat, tomorrow from 6-9pm. Funeral mass will be held in Our Lady of Assumption Church in Arichat on Thursday morning at 11am with Rev. Michel Exalant presiding. Burial will be held at a later date in Our Lady of Assumption Parish Cemetery in Arichat. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd in Arichat.
