Obituary of Cornelius Amedee Boucher

BOUCHER, Cornelius Amedee - St. Peter’s/West Arichat

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cornelius Amedee Boucher, 102 years old of St. Peter’s formerly of West Arichat that occurred at his residence at the Richmond Villa in St. Peter’s on June 16, 2019. Born February 8, 1917 in Arichat, he was the son of the late Albert and Minnie Mary (Boudreau) Boucher.

In his early years, Cornelius worked on the ferry from Arichat to Canso. He also drove the Eddie Gordon’s Bus from Arichat to Sydney 7 days a week for 5 years. He was owner operator of C.A. Boucher’s Funeral Home and Ambulance Service in Arichat up until his retirement in September of 1971. He was a man of many talents, carpentry, quilting, latch hooking, needle craft and macramé to name a few. Everyone loved his one liner’s.

He is survived and will be dearly missed by the love of his life for 76 years, Emma Roland (Theriault) Boucher, St. Peter’s; daughters Elizabeth Ann McCulloch (Ronald), Emma Cornelia Sutherland (George), both of Calgary; grandchildren Lisa, Angela, Danielle, John Willie; great grandchildren Broden and Skylar; sister Estelle Cuming, St. Peter’s. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Emily Bernice, sisters Ethel, Bernadette, Bernice, Kathleen and Mary; brothers Alexander and Simon and his only niece Aurine.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation per request. Funeral Mass and committal will take place at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the NS Diabetes Association or to the Richmond Villa Activity Fund, St. Peter’s.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Richmond Villa in St. Peter’s for their care and compassion over the past year and to the home support workers who made it possible for Cornelius to remain at home for as long as he did.
