Obituary of Marjorie Margaret Britten
BRITTEN, Marjorie – Lochside Road
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Marjorie Britten of Lochside Road, that occurred at her home on September 2, 2019. Born on June 17, 1936 in Poulamon, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marcellina (MacDonald) Pottie. Marjorie was known for her zest for life, laughter and hard work in what was perceived at the time as a “man’s job”. Marjorie, first married to Phillip Britten (deceased-Poirierville), worked together on their farm. Marjorie was always helping with both the inside and outside work. Next Marjorie started to work with the Department of Transportation and did all the work required from digging ditches, cutting alders, to holding the road signs. She was not one to shy away from a hard days’ work. It is here she met and spent the next 36 years with Alfred Bowen from Lochside Road and they were often seen doing one of their favourite past times going for drives and watching the fishing boats in Petit de Grat during lobster season. Some of Marjorie’s best qualities were her honesty (blunt at times), laughter and her ability to faint anytime she saw blood. Marjorie’s favourite past times were knitting, gardening, cooking and baking (bread was her specialty), playing bingo, watching Bold and Beautiful with Alfred and her family. Her love was shown through the gift of food and more food and/or homemade gifts. Marjorie is survived by her companion of 36 years, Alfred Bowen; daughter, Rose “Marie” Christie, Brampton, ON; son, Harold Christie (Michelle), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Jeremy and Bradley Christie, Dartmouth, Ebony and Amber Adega, Brampton, ON.; brothers: Ambrose (Karen), Poulamon, Eugene “Gene” (Gilbert), N.B., Daniel “Danny”, (Shoane), Dartmouth; sisters: Tena Britten, Martinique, Patricia Dorey-Boudreau (Wilfred), Louisdale, Delores Ranson (James), Poulamon; daughter and son i law, Audrey and Donald Bowen, Dartmouth. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Alice Mackinon (Pat); and two brothers, James (Christine) and Louie. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation per Marjorie’s request. Funeral Mass will take place Saturday morning September 7th, 2019 in Our Lady of Assumption Church in Arichat at 11:00 a.m. with Father Antolin presiding. Burial to be held at a later date.
