Age 97, formerly of Pondville, Greta passed away peacefully on Friday, September 6, 2019 at The Magnolia Continuing Care Centre, Enfield.

Born in Rocky Bay, Richmond Co., she was the daughter of the late Allan and Grace (Berge) Edwards.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.  Besides her parents, Greta was predeceased by her loving husband, Cornelius (1999); sister Irene (Renie) Nickerson; brothers Howard and Stanley Edwards.

Greta (lovingly known as “Nana”), will be deeply missed by her only daughter, Marie (George, deceased) Grant, her grandchildren, Derek (Natalie), Darlene (Dave), Kevin (Mary Anne) and her five great grandchildren; Caleb, Grace, Dini, Sam and Claire.  She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Greta was a faithful member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Arichat, where she served as Treasurer of the ACW, and served on the Altar Guild for many years.  She generously gave of her time cooking and serving at teas, church suppers and bake sales.

She will be remembered fondly by her family and friends as a kind, caring, hardworking, full time homemaker, proud grandmother, amazing woman, full of quick wit, wisdom, with a determined personality.  She truly loved Cape Breton, her family and good food.  She was a skilled knitter, making homemade sweaters, slippers, socks, mittens and blankets for family and friends.  She was an avid gardener and took great pride in both her vegetable and flower gardens.  She loved to read and play cards and often did so while enjoying a hot cup of tea.

Thank you to the staff at Ocean View Continuing Care and The Magnolia for their kind and compassionate care over the past several years.  Special thanks also to Greta’s friends and neighbours for their love, support and frequent visits.
