RESCH, Phillip Ernest of Louisdale

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Phillip Earnest Resch, doting husband, loving father and respected retired school teacher.

Phil died peacefully on Oct 1, 2019 at the tender age of 85 surrounded by his family at the Strait

Richmond Hospital in Evanston. Born Oct 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Jacob and Catherine Resch. Phil will be deeply and forever missed by his wife of 59 years,

Rosanna; his children Vaughn (Joy), Bradley (Shairleen), Tracy, and Rodney (Joanne); grandchildren Jake, Dylan, Julia (Andrew), Hillary, and Emily; great grandchildren Zachery and Jayde; siblings Alec and Carol.  Beside his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers John, Jerry and sister Doreen.

Phil was a simple man of unwavering faith and unending love for his family. He was born in Saskatchewan where he grew up on the family farm with his parents and five siblings.  It is here he learned the value of hard work and commitment. As a young adult Phil would attend Notre Dame University where he aspired to join the Priesthood.  However, that was not meant to be.  At 28 years old, he transferred to St FX University to complete his Bachelor of Education.  It was on a weekend getaway to Cape Breton with classmates where he met and would later marry his lifelong partner, soulmate, and best friend Rosanna. Phil and Rosanna had 4 children that were his entire life. He would later earn his teaching degree and go on to become, according to many students “the best teacher I ever had”.  He taught at Arichat Elementary, St. Peter’s High School and was the principal at Port Hawkesbury High School.

Phil’s quality of life in the last years, weeks, and days. To the women at Continuing Care, Homecare, and Palliative Care and to the nurses at the straight Richmond Hospital you are “Angles on Earth”. Thank you. 

 A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, Oct 4, 2019 at 11:00am at the St. Louis Church in Louisdale with Father Duncan MacIsaac presiding. Reception will follow in the St. Louis Parish Hall in Louisdale. Memorial donations can be made to Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society.  Funeral arrangements are intrusted to C. H.
