Obituary of Vernon Joseph Samson

It is with heavy hearts and a lifetime of fond memories, that we announce the peaceful passing of Vernon Joseph Samson, in the comfort of his home, on January 21, 2020, at the age of 81, surrounded by his family and close friends.
Born on December 5, 1938 in Little Anse he was the son of the late Joseph W. and Zenna (Langlois) Samson.
Vernon will be fondly remembered for his joy of cooking and gardening. He was a gifted cook and cake decorator, he catered many events and made numerous wedding and anniversary cakes for family and friends. Vernon will also be remembered for his positive outlook, despite his long battle with cancer, as expressed in his familiar saying “I’m good, tomorrow will be a better day”.
He will be forever remembered by his wife, Magdalen (Boudreau) and four daughters, Nadine (Joe) Sheehan, Dartmouth, Janelle (David) Fougere, Petit de Grat, Huguette (Martin) Bouchard, Ottawa and Ginette (Greg) Samson, Chance Harbour. He was the proud Pépé of Gilles, Joël, Rhéa, Luc, Sylvain and Alexi. He is survived by brothers Cletus (Laura), Ladner, B.C. and Elmer (Doreen), Little Anse; sisters Tillie Landry, Petit de Grat, Suzanne (Venard) Samson, D’Escousse and brothers in law Zander Samson and Charles Boudreau; sisters- in- law Louise (Barry) Marchand, Idella Boudreau, Sister Gloria Boudreau fdj, Sister Sylvia Boudreau fdj and Anne Boudreau; former son-in-law Bruce Young. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by brother Robert “Bobby”; sisters Annette, Joan, Doris, Rosaline and Antoinette as well as brothers-in-law Theophile, Rudolph, Colin, Louis, Alcide, and Gordon; godson Derrick Samson and goddaughter Peggy Anne Landry.
The family will be forever grateful for the care and support given to him by the nurses, true Angels in disguise, of the Cancer Centre at the St. Martha’s Hospital, as well as Dr Cooper, Dr. Debbie Marchand and the nurses of Palliative and Continuing Care. We will never forget the exceptional and compassionate care provided by Dr. McCormick and Dr Stephen DeRoche.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society or to Cathy’s Place in St. Martha’s Hospital.
Visitation will take place at CH Boudreau Funeral Home on Sunday, January 26, 2020 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 11am in St Joseph’s Parish Church, Petit de Grat, Père Doucet presiding. Burial to be held in The Star of the Sea Cemetery in Petit de Grat, at a later date. A reception will be held following the Funeral Mass in La Picasse in Petit de Grat.
