For Ed:
Here was a man I loved,
For whom I'd shed a tear -
But for that glint we knew so well
In that clear piercing eye
Searching
The goodness in us all
Knowing greatness
In lightness of the heart;
His gift and duty
To share this with us all
He was a wealthy man:
Finding gold
In everyone he knew
Living to love
The spirit in us all
Remembered with a smile -
There is no greater praise -
Knowing
His spirit's shared by all
My Condolences to the family. Edwin was a colourful character, always with a smile and a chuckle. He will be missed.
Lauren/Fiona and the family,
I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Edwin almost 15 years in Transport Canada. He was an wonderful colleague, with strong sense of humor, quite friendly with everyone and mostly with smiling face. We must take a solace in knowing that he is no longer in pain but is at peace.
I like to extend our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to the bereaved family. May Almighty rest him in peace (RIP).
To Lauren and family,
I had the pleasure of working within Edwin's sphere of influence these past 15 years or so, and I always looked forward to seeing him. He would have an insightful, or salty, quip at the ready, a few of which I shall never forget. I am particularly fond of his career advice to me, which involved relating one's influence to a glass of water. He could be an efficient wrangler of egos. With that said, I'm fairly certain that I understood 80 to 85% of what he said, and fully admit that the latter portion was so saturated in that beautiful brogue that all I could do was follow his lead and laugh along with him. He was a special character, and I'm fortunate to have known him as a colleague and as a friend.
I'd also like to share that Edwin was particularly encouraged by observing seafarers progress through their careers, and was proud of his role in being able to help them along in some way. Indeed, I'm grateful for the encouragement he showed to me over the years and I will continue to think fondly of Edwin. Please take good care. Pamela
I had the distinct pleasure of working with Edwin at Marine Safety for 6 great years. I definitely enjoyed the many stories and history lessons, with a few jokes for good measure. My condolences to his family and friends.
Here is to The one and only Sir Edwin McMillar. As his eulogy shows he was is and will be an entertainer of Burnsian proportions. Whilst Ed has rung Finished With Engines in this life he is still sailing in the next probably on an old Doxford way up a Scottish Sea Loch.
To his family, The Silvester family extend their deepest sympathies to the loss of this wonderful man. Slainte Mhath. Dick Silvester
I will miss you Ed. I am so thankful for the time you shared with me sailing, Burns Club Meetings and social gatherings. You will always be held in the highest regard. Thank you for your dedication to everything important in the world. I will miss your sea shanties and Burns recitals. To your family, I am grateful for the time I had with Ed. I will raise a glass to his memory tonight.
On behalf of the Halifax Burns Club I wish to pass on our condolences to his family on the passing of Edwin. He was a strong supported of the club, a regular entertainer, and participant regarding all things Burns. His renditions of Burns poetry have been classic and his participation in the choir has always been a highlight. He stood for the common man and equality for all and will be forever remembered by the club and its members.
