Obituary of Shirley Madeline Jeffrey

Please share a memory of Shirley Madeline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Shirley Madeline Jeffrey on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home in Antigonish, N.S., surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on June 11, 1939, Shirley was the daughter of the late John and Mary Eva (Marchand) Doucette. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She spent the early years of her marriage as a homemaker. She entered the workforce as a waitress for the French Village restaurant in Louisdale. In 1980, she began a career at the Louisdale Co-op where she worked as a cashier and manager until her retirement in 2007. Mom took so much pride in her job and all patrons were special to her. If anyone needed something outside of store hours, she was always willing to assist. A woman of strong faith, she was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Women’s League for 23 years and volunteered her time in the community whenever she could. She enjoyed a game of cards with friends, bingo and had a passion for cooking and baking. It was common to come home to rolls rising in pans all over the house. She delighted in baking and cooking our favorite meals and desserts. She was infamous for her pancakes and crepes that friends, children, and grandchildren enjoyed for many years. A tradition that will forever be with us! Mom was a quiet, kind, selfless, loving, and compassionate woman. Her family was her greatest pride and joy. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Leonard Joseph Jeffrey, and her children Belinda (Bill) Shea, Louisdale; Leon (Shelley) Jeffrey, Kentville; Shelly (Tommy) Samson, Louisdale; Jason (Nadine) Jeffrey, Labrador City, NL; her grandchildren Tyler (Adelle), Samantha, Tara (Blake), Travis, Jaden and Donovan, her great-grandchildren Braden, Ryder, Alayah, Olivia, and William. Shirley is survived by her brothers Wilfred (Dolores) Doucette, Reserve Mines, Cecil Doucette, Reserve Mines. Shirley was predeceased by her parents and sister Lucy Ann Locke. The family would like to say thank you to the staff of The RK for their loving care of our mother over the past 5 ½ years. A very special thanks to the Cobblestone Unit team. We are eternally grateful for the compassionate care, love, and support given to our mother during her stay and for the care, kindness, and consideration extended to our family during her final days. Cremation has taken place under the direction of CH Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd. A mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Shirley’s life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the RK Nursing Home Foundation, St. Louis Parish Cemetery Fund, or to a charity of your choice.
