It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Victor (Sonny) George Shannon, of Martinque that occurred at his home on February 18, 2022 at the age of 73 years, with his loving wife by his side. Sonny was born July 26, 1948 in Arichat, and was the son of the late George Patrick and Liola (McDonald) Shannon Sonny was a quiet, gentleman who kept his own counsel. Whomever crossed his path will smile fondly remembering his dry humor, unfailing kindness and empathy for others. His profound bravery in the face of over whelming challenges was dignified: the kind of courage that was quiet and unassuming. He was a man quick to laugh and slow to criticize. Simply, he was as fine a person as you could ever meet. He was a member of the United Brother Hood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local # 1588 and a member also of the International Union of Painter and Allied Trade Local # 1945. He was also a member of the D’Escousse Civic Improvement Dart Leaque. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Aileen Isobel (Lucas) Shannon, Martinique; step daughters, Carrie Anne Markey, Louisdale, Cherri Lynn Markey, Mulgrave; son, Peter Shannon, (Estelle), Moncton, NB; grandchildren, Samantha, Amanda, Melissa, Christopher, Derrick, Devan, Jesse and Trae; great-grandchildren, Hailee, Lucca, Alexa, Carter, Dawson, Madison, Delilah and Vitani; sisters, Pearl LeBlanc (Raymond), D’Escousse, Helen Jean, Dartmouth; sisters-in-law, Alice Giles (Marshall), Halifax, Judi MacAskill (Grant), Hammonds Plains. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Helen Shannon in infancy and Phyllis McDonald. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd, in Arichat on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass to Celebrate the Life of Sonny will be held Saturday morning, February 26, 2022 at 11am at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Arichat with Rev. John DeCoste officiating. Burial to follow in St. John Anglican Cemetery, Arichat. In compliance with Nova Scotia's COVID-19 public health regulations, social distancing, proof of double vaccination with a government issued ID must be shown to attend the visitation or funeral. Memorial donations can be made to the Pay It Forward Angel Fund, the Necklace of Hope Fund or to the charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H.
